Bacon is thought as one of the most delicious foods in Western culture. There are several websites devoted to this subject. There are even fan clubs. Amazingly, there are actually Bacon shoes (they are not genuinely made out of Bacon but are rather fashioned to look as if they have been – do an online query if you do not trust my word).
This, perhaps unforeseen popularity, makes us wonder. Who invented bacon? How to cook bacon? Can you microwave bacon? How to make bacon? Can we do this ourselves? Which are the best bacon recipes? Is Bacon Healthy? Why do people love it so much?
Fortunately, the internet is a great place to search for resources for such information. A quick query reveals that Bacon is actually cured meat that is made from certain parts of a pig. There are several types of bacon which come from different areas of the pig (its belly, its side, its loins, its shoulder and even its cheeks). Additionally, there are a great number of methods of making it: it can be smoked, boiled, fried, baked, grilled, used as a component in a salad and in many additional methods. Indeed, bacon can most definitely be microwaved (i.e. using a microwave bacon cooker), and this is something we can do ourselves.
Because Bacon is made from pigs (though in some countries, non-pork based bacon-like foods are also referred to as bacon, which is in my humble opinion plainly does not count), is actually forbidden for consumption for followers of Judaism and Islam. Judaism treats pigs as ‘dirty’ or ‘tainted’ creatures and as such, all meats prepared from them are prohibited.
