The recently released Google Sniper course by George Brown has gotten an excellent critical reception. It teaches readers how to create an empire of small websites that pull in money. Though this is not a Google Sniper review, I would like to cover a point that the system does not provide its readers with, and explain how you can plug this gap.
With Google Sniper, you pick a keyword without much competition, build content around that keyword, optimize it, and write a review or story to presell your visitors. As mentioned in my Google Sniper review, George goes into a great deal of detail on each of these topics. However, the system revolves around the assumption that your chosen keyword’s level of competition is low enough that you will rank naturally without engaging in any link building.
If you’ve done any internet marketing before, you know it’s usually not that easy to find a perfect keyword. If you make a mistake with the keyword, you’re probably not getting first page of Google, or any sales for that matter.
What can we do to combat this?
Any professional internet marketer will tell you to just build some links. But George isn’t a big fan of link building, so he doesn’t cover much of it. Given that issue, I thought I’d give you a quick primer on some basic ways of link building here.
1. Social Bookmarking: George says most of what needs to be said on these. Don’t make these the foundation of your link building efforts though, most of them are no-follow, so Google doesn’t give them a ton of weight.
2. Link Wheels: This is where you create a chain of web 2.0 properties together that all point back to your site. Google “linkwheel” for more information.
3. Profile Links: Many high page rank sites allow users to create personal profiles on their site, and often include an area where you can place a link. MTV.com and TED.com are good examples of this type of site.
4. Blog Commenting: This involves seeking out relevant blogs and posting a comment, using your keywords for your name and placing the page you want to link back to in the URL field. It is important when doing this to actually read the blog post and make an intelligent, relevant comment, otherwise the comment will most likely be deleted.
5. Article Submission: Write good articles and submit them to good article directories. You get a resource box at the end of your article where you can put a short bio or a call to action followed by a link to your money site. In addition to providing you with a powerful link, article directories will often help you to generate additional traffic as they usually rank quite well in the search engines.
With the 5 techniques above, you should be able to boost your Google rankings significantly, even on competitive keywords. Now that you know the basics of linkbuilding, you’ve patched the only leak in the Google Sniper system and you’re ready to go. Get to building those sniper sites and get your slice of the pie!
